Personal Objective: This week I explored gaining familiarity with factors and multiples at the 4th grade level. My goal was to create and gather clear visual and written examples that would make the subject area more accessible and fun for students.
Common Core Standard:
4th Grade: 4.OA
Gain familiarity with factors and multiples
4. Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite.

Scott, I found it very useful to see factors and multiples next to each other. These two can be confusing and your visuals are very informative. I like the goldfish because it is something relatable for students. I think that it is useful for students to start with the prime number chart as they are starting to grasp the topic so they can slowly become less reliant on referring back to it when working through finding factors.
ReplyDeleteI love your viewon how to make teaching factors and multiples more fun and on how to make it understandable for your students. All students love food being incorporated into lessons so way to go with the goldfish project!! All of the ideas that are posted throughout are very useful for teaching a lesson. whether students are just using these as handouts or practice sheets, it is good for them to work through and see how they work with these numbers and finding factors
